Derek Marshall (Delboy) Sub Camp Chief
Started Scouting in 1988 in British Scouts Western Europe (BSWE) whilst serving with the RAF at Gutersloh a small town in Western Germany before the Berlin wall came down. I was drawn into the fold of the Scout Group Executive Committee, I think that’s when it all begins for most of us. I was destined to help out even more as my wife Alma became the Akela for the cub pack, therefore, the only way that I could see her at weekends was to help out at the cub pack as chief cook and bottle washer, boy did we eat well. In 1989 I was offered the position of Assistant District Commissioner Fellowship for the Teutoburg District which I took up and enjoyed, this was not to last as in the latter part of 1990 we were posted back to England. Alma was invited to take on the Cub pack who where desperate for leaders and I ended up again helping out as Group Chairman at RAF Wittering Scout Group in the Stamford and Bourne District. We liked it so much we have settled down in Stamford. In 1995 I became a District SL and in 1996 I some how ended up running the 4 acre Scout Campsite, Shacklewell Hollow, which I still run to this day. This is my 3rd Poacher on the team for Staff Campers so hopefully I have a good ideas of what you hope to see and do. I was Staff Sub camp chief at Poacher 2000 so some of you may know of me by my nickname “Delboy “. |
