Lucy  ( Watch this space for my mug shot.)

This is my 2nd time at Poacher but my 1st as Sub-camp leader.  I’ve had many roles in both Guiding and Scouting  -  Brownie, Guide, Young Leader, Venture Scout, Beaver Helper, Brownie Helper, Assistant Cub Leader, Guide Guider and District Explorer Scout Administrator, juggling several roles in a week.  Not being happy with spending a couple of evenings a week doing Guiding / Scouting things, I also teach Dance and have a part time position as a Learning Support Assistant at a Primary School.

My first Poacher was ’87 as a happy camper! I’ve not missed one since – does that make me a veteran yet?!? I’ve done various jobs around the place, Bog Squad, Activities, relief and then full-time bar maid, and have now been promoted to Manager of the Junior Bar (much to the amusement of people who know me outside of Guiding!) I’m working on the principle of ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’ and I hope to build on the successful party atmosphere of previous bars where Junior staff (and others…) can relax after a hard day’s Poaching. However, there is a full programme of Entertainment planned with something a little different every night… Be Prepared would be an appropriate motto!!

On a personal note, I am a Guide Guider in Humberston, N.E.Lincs, having risen through the ranks of Brownie, Guide and so on. I teach in a Special Needs School (Secondary) and so am well used to stroppy teenagers who want their own way (joking, joking… the Junior Staff are a mature, responsible bunch with a keen sense of moral duty!!) I firmly believe that Poacher is a camp for ALL to enjoy, without prejudice or pressure from others. Having done some of the muckiest jobs on site, I also know that staff need a place to let their hair down (depending upon how much you’ve got!) so as long as we know what we all want and work together to achieve it, Poacher 2004 should be the best yet!

Charles Anderson – Chas

I started Scouting in 1968 as a Cub Scout and have continued since then through the Scout section into leadership. (There were no Venture units locally at that time.)

As a leader I have be lucky to have experience of all the sections from Beaver Scouts to Venture Scouts and latterly as ADC Adult Training.

I’m married to Angela, who is also involved in Scouting and we have two children William (a Scout) and Emily (a Brownie Guide). Together we all actively participate in the ‘Deeping Gang Show’

For the 3rd Poacher running I‘m part of the ‘Junior staff’ subcamp and look forward  to meeting you at camp. Have a great camp!

 Idiot overview:

Born a few years ago off the south coast of the UK in a small island of the British Empire.

Scouting history - mad Venture Scout, then became mad Venture Scout Leader and was ultimately able to become a Network Scout and then County chairman for Norfolk last year.  Now a member of the Leicestershire County Support team!

Dragged myself all over the world to such destinations as Mexico & Australia in the name of pursuing Scouting all over the globe, have lost count of the number of other Scout camps I have attended/organised in the UK and Europe.  Stopped counting when I ran out of fingers and toes :).  Have got my QSA, Woodbeads and all that kind of stuff but get the most fun out of being stuck in the mud and grime with mad people at grass roots scouting!!!!
